A member of the Pastoral Group of dogs, the Estrela Mountain Dog is believed to be the oldest dog breed from the Iberian Peninsula. It takes its name from the Serra da Estrela mountain range which cross through Portugal. It is a member of the Pastoral Group of dogs.
